Revelation Announces Universal Driver 4.5; EMEA User Group Seminar to be Held in U.K.
Revelation Software
has announced the availability of Universal Driver 4.5. The new
Universal Driver 4.5 is an incremental improvement to the Universal
Driver 4.0, with enhancements primarily focused on the management
tool that comes with the driver, Mike Ruane, president and CEO,
Revelation, told 5 Minute Briefing. “We have increased the
speed a little bit on the actual processing itself but mostly we
have improved the management tool so that when a user goes to the
console on the server, they can see some more information and it
just makes their lives a little bit easier,” he said.
“Any users who have the Universal Driver 4.0 can upgrade to the UD 4.5 for free,” added Robert Catalano, Revelation director of sales. The Universal Driver 4.5 is available for Windows platforms only. However, Catalano noted, "Novell users can still use the UD 3.0."
Additionally, with the next major release of Revelation's flagship product, OpenInsight 9.0, expected in the fourth quarter, the EMEA office in London has announced their next Revelation User Group and MultiValue User Seminar to be held in London on Tuesday, August 5. The one-day seminar will include fewer sessions than the Revelation user group conference held in May in Las Vegas, and the sessions that are offered will be abbreviated, but “we can bring a flavor of the conference” to the seminar in London, said Ruane.

DesignBais Unveils Release 4.33 and Launches Webinar Series
DesignBais International has unveiled release 4.33, launched a new round of Webinars, and announced its training courses for September and October. DesignBais is a functionally rich toolset that allows developers to design and create enterprise-wide Web-based applications. “We believe that DesignBais is the best commercial-grade, browser-based application development and deployment environment for MultiValue and this release goes along way to cementing that position,” David McLean, president of DesignBais International, told 5 Minute Briefing.
DesignBais 4.33 is a major development release, which offers significant benefits over previous versions, according to McLean. “It is faster, has more keyboard controls, which takes the user off the mouse and improves productivity for those heads-down data entry types.” In the new release, said McLean, “We have also remodeled the eXpress ad hoc report generation engine that ships with DesignBais. The eXpress environment now completely understands the MultiValue database structure, and provides an interface that allows the end-user to truly interact with the database.” Additionally, he noted, there other features that make development and deployment of applications much easier.
“We have also revamped our porting processes, which now means that we can issue upgrades and patches within hours as opposed to weeks previously,” said McLean. In fact, he said, “we now have 4.34 on our Web site and are finalizing release 4.35.” This is an area that DesignBais has “received some criticism in” in the past and this has been “an extremely high priority” for DesignBais, he noted.
Another important aspect of release 4.33, said McLean, “is that we now have a solid foundation for our Ajax-compliant release” that will be available in the future. DesignBais will be piloting its first Ajax application at the end of August and expects a release in September. “This will not supplant our commercial-grade functionality, but strengthen our offering across non-IE browsers.”
DesignBais also announced a Webinar series throughout July, August and September, to provide an additional training resource for the DesignBais developers. There are also a number of product overview Webinars for those new to DesignBais. “We have had fantastic feedback from our previous series, and I would encourage anyone that is using DesignBais or thinking about it, to have a look,” said McLean. In particular, an August Webinar will feature clients demonstrating their applications, illustrating “what is possible when DesignBais is put in the hands of a MultiValue programmer.” Additional information is on the DesignBais Web site. BlueFinity Roadshow to Showcase Integration of MultiValue and Microsoft .NET
BlueFinity said it is considering holding a series of one-day technical seminars to take place September 29 to October 3 in various U.S. locations. The seminars will provide an introduction to the various aspects of BlueFinity mv.NET from a technical perspective, for those already familiar with a version of a MultiValue database. Some working knowledge of Microsoft .NET is recommended. Topics will include an in-depth technical overview of mv.NET architecture and functionality, installation/configuration, licensing and pricing, product roadmap, live demonstrations of application development and a Q&A session with the BlueFinity team.
According to BlueFinity, the merging of MultiValue databases with open system technologies has evolved over the past decade, yet much of the MultiValue marketplace has not fully investigated the ease with which Microsoft .NET can enhance their application software. mv.NET from BlueFinity International closes the loop for .NET integration with MultiValue applications and allows rapid application development using the latest Microsoft technologies such as Visual Studio to create and enhance MultiValue applications.
Using BlueFinity’s mv.NET, VARs as well as in-house IT departments can modernize their applications both visually and functionally using native Windows technology. “Whether you are looking to build a new e-commerce Web site, create Web services, enhance legacy applications or create new rich applications using MultiValue business logic, mv.NET from BlueFinity International can get you there fast with less development cost,” said David Cooper, lead developer at BlueFinity.
In addition to seminars in the U.S., plans for seminars in Australia, France and the U.K. are also underway. For more information, about BlueFinity, go here.
