New Release from Kore Technologies Offers Enhanced Net Change Functionality

Kore Technologies has announced Release 1.8 of its enterprise integration suite, which provides enterprise application integration (EAI) and extract, transform, and load (ETL) capabilities for connecting IBM U2 applications to Microsoft SQL Server and other applications. The new version of Kourier Integrator for U2 and SQL Accelerator offers many new features plus significant enhancements to Kore's “Net Change” technology, which enables near real-time data integration, high performance and scalability. The Net Change system has been extended to support applications that delete items in the UniData/UniVerse database and also to support distributed files on UniVerse systems.

“There are applications that delete records rather than marking them as inactive,” Mark Dobransky, managing partner of Kore Technologies, told 5 Minute Briefing. “Now you don’t have to do a full refresh.” Implementing data warehouses or system integration is much simpler now because the only time a full data refresh is needed is if the data model changes, according to the company.

There is also support for Net Change with distributed files in UniVerse in the new release. Because of a historical limitation in Unix, at one point, as databases got larger, companies would generate what were known as distributed files. “They are no longer needed,” Dobransky said. “But they are there.” The new feature will provide performance benefits for users leveraging this file type to manage large UniVerse files with their application.

Other key enhancements in the new release include: concurrency control and binary transfer for FTP messages; enhanced Quick Start tools that simplify and expedite new integration projects; new utilities for packaging and deploying a "suitcase" of integration components; and support for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of SQL 2005 and Microsoft Windows.

Kore releases major updates every six months or so, Dobransky said. The company is increasingly positioning Kourier Integrator and SQL Accelerator as true enterprise application integration middleware, as well as expanding the number of databases it supports.

Entrinsik Launches Customer-Driven Webinar Series Featuring Informer Web-Based Reporting

Entrinsik has launched a Webinar series featuring customer-driven product demonstrations of its Web-based reporting tool Informer. Informer is a fully integrated platform for reporting, to easily and securely access data in real time directly from UniVerse and UniData databases. The next Webinar is scheduled for May 22. Replays of the first two Webinars are offered on the Entrinsik site.

The first Webinar which took place in January featured Regina Lopez, a DBA at Barry University, who described how Informer's Live Excel feature enabled her to access student and faculty data in real time, and using Informer as the conduit for data, instantly update information in documents she maintained on her desktop. The February Webinar featured Christopher Adams, Datatel programmer/project manager in the IT department at Dean College, who discussed how and why his organization chose Informer as the UniData reporting solution, and demonstrated how the college is using Informer to create canned financial reports, schedule capacity reports, and secure data access. MITS Report Fuels Popular New RV Dealer Applications from Integrated Dealer Systems

MITS and Integrated Dealer Systems (IDS) have joined forces to make it easier for RV dealers to grow their businesses, by integrating MITS Report technology into IDS’s flagship Astra Dealer Management System (DMS). The new CRM Reports application is available now from IDS.

The new CRM Reports application lets users interactively retrieve and analyze customer, sales, and operational information through pre-configured and user-created reports - which can be filtered, sorted, and totaled according to individual user needs, then exported to other formats or shared via email.

IDS chose the MITS technology because it met all of its reporting functionality requirements, due to its architectural fit, and in light of what Sean Raynor, director of sales and marketing at IDS, calls “the strong MITS track record” in the reporting and business intelligence for MultiValue computing platforms. The Astra DMS runs on Microsoft Windows desktops, in independent client software and via Web browsers, which interact with remote, IBM Universe-based capabilities via a Microsoft .NET framework.
“When we designed MITS Report, we were thinking beyond the MultiValue market,” said Fred Owen, president of MITS, “so we made it easy to integrate into other applications on various platforms.”

IDS also plans to offer MITS Discover - the company’s business intelligence (analytics) solution - as an  add on product into its Astra DMS solution during the first half of 2008. For more details on MITS software solutions, contact a MITS representative at info@mits.com or visit the MITS Web site here. For more details on IDS Astra, go here.

Economic Stimulus Plan Also Has Plums for Technology Users

Most people know that the U.S. Economic Stimulus Package, signed into law recently, is going to provide tax rebates to many taxpayers over the coming months. However, the new package also has some incentives for business technology investments, as well. Our friends at IBM pointed out that the new law includes a bonus depreciation provision available for all businesses on new equipment and software placed in service in 2008. Large and small businesses can expense up to 50 percent of the value of capital goods placed into service this year, while certain small businesses may have the ability to nearly double the amount they immediately write-off during 2008. This provision in effect doubles the benefits of an existing tax write-off for small businesses. To stay on top of all the trends, subscribe to Database Trends and Applications magazine.
