InterSystems and Four Points Technology To Partner on $34.9 Million Contract With Department of Veterans Affairs
InterSystems Corp. has announced that Four Points Technology, LLC, will provide the InterSystems CACHÉ high-performance object database to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The contract for enterprise software and maintenance services, with an initial value of approximately $34.9 million, includes option periods which, if exercised, will bring the total cumulative value to an estimated $183.7 million.
InterSystems develops and markets innovative database and integration software. Its product line includes the InterSystems CACHÉ high-performance object database, InterSystems Ensemble rapid integration platform and InterSystems HealthShare platform for regional and national electronic health records. Herndon, VA-based Four Points Technology is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business focused on providing IT products and services to the federal government.
“We have been in healthcare since the late 1970s,” Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems vice president of strategic planning, told 5 Minute Briefing. Observing that healthcare was one of the first 24x7 businesses that used computer technology, Grabscheid said, “We focused on the reliability of the technology from the start.” The Department of Veterans Affairs is a group that InterSystems has worked with for a long time and their usage has grown and grown, said Grabscheid. “We are very happy to see that growth continue and to see them put our technology to use in their healthcare systems.”
InterSystems also has a well-established and successful working partnership with Four Points Technology, which was selected to act as the solutions partner for InterSystems technology through a competitive Small Business Veteran Owned contract process, said Grabscheid. This relationship ensures the VA has optimal access to InterSystems CACHÉ and to InterSystems' world-class support, according to Grabscheid.
Separately, InterSystems Corporation also announced that the Group Health healthcare system has completed rolling out the Progeny Anatomic Pathology (AP) information system from PathView Systems, Ltd., an InterSystems application partner. The implementation is built on InterSystems CACHÉ. With 1,000 physicians serving more than a half million members in Washington and Idaho, Group Health is a non-profit healthcare system that provides both medical coverage and care.

APT Solutions becomes the U.K. Distributor for Informer Web Reporting Software
APT Solutions, a distributor of IBM’s UniVerse and UniData (U2) Databases in the United Kingdom has expanded its partnership with Entrinsik, a provider of software and services focused on the IBM U2 family of database products, to distribute Informer Web Reporting Software in the U.K. and Ireland. APT had previously been selling an integrated version of Entrinsik’s Informer Web Reporting Software with its own popular enterprise software for the not-for-profit industry.
APT began offering Informer to its customer base a few months ago with “excellent” customer acceptance, according to George Land, APT’s chairman and business development director. “We have determined from our customers’ reactions and from our own evaluation that Informer is the superior reporting tool for U2 Databases. Now with our expanded U2 distribution role with IBM, Informer became the obvious choice to be our recommendation of a Web reporting complement for our U2 customers.”
Entrinsik already has a distributor in South Africa and also one in Australia, and had been searching for a distributor in the U.K. for some time, Doug Leupen, president of Entrinsik, told 5 Minute Briefing. According to Leupen, APT is IBM’s largest and most respected U2 software partner in the U.K. With APT's expanded U2 distribution role and their “fantastic” reputation, Leupen said he expects a win-win relationship. Having Informer as another offering to sell to other U2 customers in the U.K. is “great for them and it is also great for us,” said Leupen.

Mpower1 Announces BlueFinity Application Services for Outsourced MultiValue and .NET Application Development
Mpower1 International, which specializes in business creation, turnaround, growth and development for software companies, has announced a new addition to its group of companies, BlueFinity Application Services (BAS). BAS has been established to perform application development for any MultiValue database or .NET customer who does not have the in-house skills or time to develop, migrate or enhance their systems themselves. Development can either be provided as a one time project or as part of an outsourced development and support contract depending on the needs of the customer.
“We see a tremendous future in the MultiValue marketplace, particularly with the growing trend to use .NET to integrate other technologies with MultiValue business applications,” stated Ian Leeper, director of BAS, in making the announcement. “BAS consultants are your best source for insight and knowledge about your MultiValue and .NET implementations.”
Joining SC Systems, jBASE International and BlueFinity International, BAS is now the fourth MultiValue company within the Mpower1 Group of Companies. SC Systems is a provider of rapid application development (RAD) tools; jBASE International is leading MultiValue database provider; and BlueFinity International is a supplier of software development tools for the MultiValue database and Microsoft developer communities.
Although BAS will utilize a number of programming languages and development tools from within the Mpower1 Group of companies, the company is expected to particularly leverage the use of BlueFinity’s mv.NET in the .NET development environment to produce applications. mv.NET is a solution for accessing MultiValue databases from within Microsoft's .NET environment. It enables software designers to combine the power and flexibility of MultiValue technology with the feature-rich .NET environment, and its seamless integration with Microsoft Visual Studio provides a rapid application development environment fine-tuned for the MultiValue developer, according to the vendor.
