About Us

Unisphere Media, a division of Information Today, Inc. is a diversified information company that provides independent editorial content and peer-based market research to targeted IT communities through its own print and electronic media, and custom and contract publishing. Unisphere Research, the company's market research unit, conducts proprietary, custom research projects in conjunction with the top data management and IT user groups, as well as with other leading industry communities. Unisphere has pioneered user group-based research and has built its editorial products in conjunction with its user community-based market insight. Through service to a variety of specific user communities, Unisphere's media and marketing products reach the full information management marketplace both as a whole, and through specific segments. For this reason, over 400 IT-oriented companies have chosen Unisphere as a marketing partner, and the company has grown from one print magazine to an integrated media company with close to 20 specific vehicles serving the IT universe.

Thomas J. Wilson - Thomas J. Wilson is the president and CEO of Unisphere Media. Over the past 31 years, he has published and managed a broad range of business-to-business publications at Crain Communications, The New York Law Publishing Company, International Data Group and CMP Media. Widely-known within the business-to-business media field as an effective, innovative leader with a track record of business success, Wilson's management positions include building market-leading titles at Advertising Age, The National Law Journal and the New York Law Journal, NetGuide and Network World. In 1997, Wilson, Pat Herron and Robert Boucher purchased the IT and Vision Care publishing groups of Cardinal Business Media as a management team and formed BCI, based in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. BCI's IT Group rapidly diversified, and grew its influence and revenue in key IT market segments under Wilson's leadership as Group Publisher and Executive Vice President for BCI. This was accomplished both through agile market positioning and diversification into web-and-email-based media at Enterprise Systems Journal, ENT magazine, Platform Decisions, Enterprise Linux and other key market segments during this period of time.  Just two years later in October of 1999, the BCI partners sold the highly successful Information Technology Group to 101 Communications as an asset sale.  In July of 2000, Wilson established Unisphere Media and Unisphere subsequently acquired Database Trends and Applications (DBTA) magazine in May of 2001. DBTA is published quarterly. Over the past eight years, Unisphere has expanded its media family by developing sponsored e-newsletters, including the 5 Minute Briefing series, while partnering with prominent user groups and suppliers to produce similar news products in specific IT segments. Contract assignments over this time include email newsletter work for IBM on the IBM LinuxLine and the Linux Executive Report from IBM, as well as contract print magazine publishing for the Brainstorm Group with BPMStrategies magazine in print and online. In 2009 Unisphere expanded into global contract email newsletter publishing by reaching an agreement with the All India Oracle Users Group (AIOUG) to publish "Headlines from the AIOUG" monthly, bringing its coverage of Oracle marketplace technology news to nearly 5,000 AIOUG members in India. Unisphere also has pioneered the field of sponsored user group market research while engaging in numerous publication-based public and proprietary market research studies on behalf of many leading IT organizations. Unisphere also has authored syndicated studies in the database market and completed direct research work for user groups during this time. Today, the company has completed over 75 individual research projects during the past four years. In June, 2008 Unisphere completed a strategic merger with Information Today, Inc. (ITI). ITI's capabilities have enabled the re-launch of the Database Trends and Applications's web site and created the foundation for Unisphere's continued evolution as a web-based information provider serving the needs of information management professionals in the twenty first century enterprise.
